Open crew claims title
The women's open crew obliterated the field at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships to win the national championship Sunday at Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J. The Tigers finished more than six seconds ahead of second place California.
Last year's race had a very different ending when the Golden Bears overtook Princeton in the last 1,000 meters to win the title. This Tiger squad would not let that happen, as it increased its already strong lead over the final stretch of the race.
The crew was ranked No. 1 entering the season, and it validated that status by going through the season undefeated and winning 14 races, a Princeton record.
The boat is made up of senior stroke Caroline Lind, sophomore No. 7 Kristin Haraldsdottir, senior No. 6 Jackie Zider, senior No. 5 Devan Darby, senior No. 4 Andreanne Morin, junior No. 3 Caroline Kruse, junior No. 2 Genevra Stone, senior bow Kate Bertko and sophomore coxswain Lizzie Agnew.
This marks the first national championship for the open crew since 1995.
The lightweight crews must wait until the weekend of June 2-4 for their chance at a national championship.
Lacrosse All-Americans
Sophomore goalkeeper Alex Hewit was named a men's lacrosse first-team All-American.
Hewit, already chosen as a second team All-Ivy League selection, is one of five Tigers to receive All-America honors. With a .646 save percentage, he finishes the season second among goalies in Division I men's lacrosse.
He is the third Tiger goalie to be a first-team All-American choice under head coach Bill Tierney's nearly 20-year reign.
Two Tigers who played defense in front of Hewit this season also received honors. Sophomore defenseman Dan Cocoziello was named to the second team, and linemate junior Zach Jungers was a third-team selection.
Ranked fourth in Division I with an average of 6.56 goals allowed, the Tigers' defense this year shut down many opponents with the stalwart play of Hewit, Cocoziello, Jungers, senior defenseman Ryan Schoenig and long-stick midfielder junior John Bennett.

Additionally, offensive leader and junior attack Peter Trombino and freshman midfielder Mark Kovler each earned honorable mentions. Kovler notched 18 goals this season as a rookie, the third-highest number of goals scored on the team. Trombino led the Tigers with 22 goals and 18 assists.
Notably, all five of the Tigers' All-America selections will not graduate until next year at the earliest.
Baseball seedings
The baseball team is heading to Fayatteville, Ark., for NCAA regional play. The regional is hosted by Arkansas; the Tigers will be joined by Oral Roberts and Oklahoma State — the regional's top seed — in the grouping.
As the fourth seed in the group, Princeton will face Oklahoma State this Friday to start off regional play. The victor will face the winner of the Arkansas-Oral Roberts matchup, while the two losers meet up as well.
The regional is played in a double elimination format. The winner of the regional will advance to a super-regional, with a bid to the College World Series on the line.
