Young beats Yankees

Former Princeton two-sport star Chris Young '02 improved to 2-0 on the season with a win over the New York Yankees on Friday night.

On a cold night in the Bronx, the 6-foot, 10-inch Texas Rangers' pitcher scattered four hits and gave up just one run in five and two-thirds innings of work, and the Rangers bullpen held on for a 5-3 victory. It was Young's fourth start of the season — he did not pick up a decision in either of the first two.

"I didn't get caught up in it," Young told MLB.com in regards to his first start at Yankee Stadium. "It's another mound to me. The history and tradition here are great for the fans, but as a pitcher, you can't let those things affect you. That was the mentality I tried to take."

Young's breaking ball, which he has been working on improving, was particularly strong against the Yankees.

"The breaking ball hasn't been consistent, but tonight I threw more good ones than bad ones," Young said. "It's a work in progress."
