Men's, women's basketball players make All-Ivy team
Six Tigers were among the honorees when the All-Ivy teams were announced Thursday for both men's and women's basketball.
The women led the way, with four players garnering honors. A pair of freshman forwards, Meagan Cowher and Ariel Rogers, were named to the All-Rookie team and Cowher, a unanimous selection, was also selected as Ivy League Rookie of the Year.
Junior center Becky Brown, who was named to the All-Ivy second team, and junior guard Katy O'Brien, an honorable mention, also took home accolades.
On the men's side, senior guard Will Venable was selected to the second team, while senior center Judson Wallace earned an honorable mention.
Venable, who earned All-Ivy first-team honors last season along with Wallace, led the Tigers with 3.1 assists and 1.9 steals per game this season. He was Princeton's leading scorer, at 10.2 points per game, and rebounder, with 3.3 per game, during Ivy play.
Wallace's honor came during a season in which he was limited by injuries to just 24.5 minutes per game. Still, the 16th-leading scorer in Princeton history managed to average a team-best 12.2 points and 4.9 rebounds per game.
Cowher's Rookie of the Year selection follows a season that saw her finish second on the Tigers in scoring, at 11.1 points per game, and third in the Ivy League in field goal percentage, at 50.0 percent.
Brown, meanwhile, put together eight 20-point games this season while leading the Tigers in rebounding, with an average of 6.7 boards per game. O'Brien tallied 111 assists on the season, the third-best total in Princeton history.
A late-season charge was the primary reason for Rogers' honor. The career-high 14 points she scored on January 29 came the game after a 12-point effort, her previous best.
Five men's hockey players win academic honors
Five players on the men's hockey team were named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference Hockey League All-Academic Team on Thursday. Juniors Eric Leroux, Mark Masters, Patrick Neuendorfer and Dustin Sproat were all repeat honorees. Senior Luc Paquin, who joined the hockey team this season, was the final Princeton player named to the team.
