Three-peats aren't unheard of in Princeton sports history. Princeton's men's lacrosse team did it in 1996, 1997 and 1998. And now junior squash player Yasser El-Halaby can lay claim to a three-peat of his own, the first Princeton men's squash player ever to win three national championships by the end of his junior year season.
El-Halaby capped off a brilliant performance this weekend by defeating Yale's Julian Illingworth in an impressive three-game sweep to win his third consecutive Collegiate Squash Association individual title.
Illingworth defeated El-Halaby, 3-2, in the Tigers' regular season match against the Elis earlier this year, but El-Halaby topped Illingworth last weekend when Princeton stunned Yale in the third-place match of the national team tournament.
This time, El-Halaby took the final match by scores of 9-2, 9-2, and 9-4, winning 15 of 16 games overall for the weekend. The only game he dropped came in the semifinals against Harvard's Siddharth Suchde.
