Sophomore forward Katy Digovich said Monday night that she has been kicked off the women's basketball team.
Digovich, who started 17 of the Tigers' first 22 games this season, last played in a game on Feb. 19.
"Basically I am kicked off the team, and whether I will ever play Princeton basketball again remains to be seen," Digovich said in an email Monday night.
"Right now I don't know if I should go into detail, but . . . that's where stuff is right now," she said. "And it sucks. But that's ok cause sometimes life is like that. "
Head coach Richard Barron could not be reached for comment despite repeated attempts Monday.
Teammates confirmed that Digovich was no longer with the team but declined to discuss the circumstances of her departure.
Junior co-captain Katy O'Brien said that the decision is "something she needs to do right now [and] sort out herself."
Digovich's season had not been without controversy. She did not play in Princeton's loss to Rutgers on Dec. 8 after being suspended for an unspecified violation of team rules. She also did not play in the Tigers' Feb. 18 win over Yale.
As a freshman, Digovich earned All-Ivy League All-Rookie Team honors, averaging better than 10 points and 32 minutes of playing time per game. She saw both figures drop this year, averaging 8.7 points in 25 minutes per contest.
The Tigers concluded their season Saturday with a loss to Dartmouth, finishing 13-15 overall. — Includes reporting by Princetonian Staff Writer Trent Magruder.
