Midway through the men's basketball game Saturday night, members of the 1964-65 Princeton team — which reached the Final Four of the NCAA tournament, finishing third in the nation — were honored. After the on-court ceremony, 'Prince' managing sports editor David Baumgarten caught up with two of the team's stars for a quick chat — Senator Bill Bradley '65, the Tigers' All-American senior captain, and Director of Athletics Gary Walters '67, who started at point guard.
Daily Princetonian: What do you remember most about the season 40 years ago?
Bill Bradley: The Providence game, when we won the Eastern Regional [earning a berth in the Final Four]. We won easily — it was an incredible team game.
DP: Is it like old times when everyone gets back together?
BB: Oh yeah, definitely.
DP: Do you think you guys could take on the current team?
BB: I don't think any of us can run anymore [laughs].
DP: What about at the time — how did the '65 team compare to the current team?
BB: Well, we were better than all but two teams in the country that year.

DP: What do you remember most about the season 40 years ago?
Gary Walters: My teammates.

DP: How often do you get to see everyone?
GW: Not often enough. This is a special occasion. As much as we're here to reflect on 40 years ago, we're really here to honor our great coach, Bill van Breda Kolff.
DP: Do you think you guys could take on the current team?
GW: Don't think so, I think we'll pass.
DP: What about at the time — how did the '65 team compare to the current team?
GW: We weren't too bad. We had a very nice balance and very well coached. Most importantly, we had a lot of fun.
