A man with outstanding warrants was arrested in Frist Campus Center for suspicious activity at 1:20 a.m. Monday.
Public Safety Director Steven Healy said "some very alert students saw him and felt that he was suspicious" based on the strange questions he was asking students.
Healy also said this is "not an unusual occurrence" as suspicious people in Frist are reported to Public Safety "practically every day."
The man's warrants were for attempted robbery and parole violation in Florida.
Three Public Safety officers took the man into custody after briefly questioning him and discovering the outstanding warrants.
Rachel Miller '05 was working at the Frist welcome desk during the event. She described the man as "older" and said the desk phoned Public Safety after the man's suspicious questioning was reported there.
Healy commended the alert students who called Public Safety regarding the incident.
Electrical fire
At 3:04 p.m. Monday, a tree caught fire due to a downed power line at the corner of University Place and Dickinson Street.
The power line was "rubbing against the tree and the insulation rubbed through," said Steve Webb of the Princeton Borough Fire Marshall's Office.
The 76-kilovolt line contained enough energy to ignite the bark once in direct contact with the tree.
Webb said a resident of 2 Dickinson Street initially reported a power outage. A University electrician responded to the call and witnessed the wire break, which was followed by the ignition.
The Princeton Fire Department responded to the subsequent call from the University electrician.
Webb said he anticipated that the power company PSG&E would have the power line in working order within an hour and a half.
Residents said power was restored before dinner.
