It was a clean sweep this weekend as the freshmen on the Princeton Crew team had their time to shine in this year's Belly of the Carnegie regatta. Princeton finished first in the meet that takes into consideration the results from three events.
The men's heavyweight and lightweight teams competed along with the women's open weight team.
A Princeton boat finished first in all three divisions.
The Tigers won the Belly Bowl with a composite time of one hour, 28 minutes, and 33.55 seconds. Navy finished in second place a little more than two minutes behind the Tigers. Columbia rounded out the top three with a time of 1:31:01.56.
For freshmen that have not had the opportunity to compete this year, this race gives them the opportunity to get some experience in an important race at the collegiate level.
In each of the three races, two boats from each school compete. Some schools will also race a third team, but only the top two boats count towards the final total.
In the men's heavyweight race, Princeton two boats finished first and third. The Tiger's second boat was edged out by only .11 seconds by Harvard at the finish line.
Princeton also finished first in the men's lightweight division, while their second boat placed fifth. Navy's two boats finished second and third in this race.
Finally, the Tigers open weight women's boats crossed the finish line in first and third place.
Princeton also entered a lightweight women's boat, which finished in 15th place.
With the strong showings in each of the races, Princeton was able to comfortably claim victory in the overall team competition. This was the ninth time in the 13 years of this competition that Princeton has come out on top.
