Senior goalie Peter Sabbatini, Collegiate Water Polo Association Eastern Championship Tournament MVP, was a virtual brick wall in the cage this weekend, as the Tigers dominated the Eastern Championships in Lewisburg, Pa. Sabbatini's strong defensive effort assisted the Tigers in securing a berth to the NCAA Final Four for the first time in 12 years.
Sabbatini has been an instrumental part of Princeton's success since he first started in the net his sophomore year. Before starting school at Princeton, Sabbatini honed his skills while playing for the U.S. Junior Team. After a freshman year hampered by injury, Sabbatini was a standout his sophomore season. His stellar performance earned him a spot, once again, on the U.S. Junior Team the summer before his junior year. He traveled with the squad to the Men's Junior World Championships in Italy.
Since his sophomore year, Sabbatini's performance has captured the attention of coaches and award committees. Last season he was named third-team All-America, Southern Championship MVP and first team All-East and All-South.
So far this year, Sabbatini's 115 total saves have led the team to a 25-4 overall record and an undefeated record in the CWPA.
He will continue to lead the team when they head to Palo Alto, Calif. on Dec. 4 and 5 for the NCAA Championship.
