Senior forward Esmeralda Negron appears to be generally unsatisfied with letting bygones be bygones.
Entering the year with 27 career goals, Negron seems intent on rewriting Princeton's record books by the time she steps out of FitzRandolph Gate. With nine tallies already this season, Negron is just five goals shy of tying Linda Deboer '85's school record of 41. With eight assists and 26 total points, Negron is a mere nine points shy of DeBoer's record in that category.
In Princeton's two games last week, Negron made clear why she is the reigning Ivy League Player of the Week. Against American, the Harrington Park, N.J. native dished out a record-tying three assists in No. 11 women's soccer's 7-1 rout. On Saturday against Columbia, Negron netted both Tiger goals as Princeton blanked the Lions, 2-0.
More than any particular physical attribute, it has been Negron's ability to find open seams in the defense and beat defenders with her patented cutback move that separate her from most goal scorers.
With five regular season games remaining on the schedule, the EEB major seems more intent on making history than anything else.
For her efforts against American and Columbia, the Daily Princetonian is proud to name Esmeralda Negron its Athlete of the Week.
