Learning how to juggle commitments is a way of life here at Princeton. Few have done this with as much excellence as Theresa Sherry, a senior standout on the women's varsity soccer and lacrosse teams.
Sherry made her presence felt at Princeton within her first few months on campus. As a freshman on the soccer team, the midfielder led the Tigers in scoring with eight goals and one assist in the 2000 season.
She repeated this feat her sophomore year, and then was an integral part of the team that made it to the NCAA tournament in fall 2002. As one of the Tigers' captains this fall, Sherry scored three goals and one assist to put her in ninth place overall for goals in a career.
But perhaps Sherry is best known for her exploits on the lacrosse field. A two-time All-American by the end of her junior year, Sherry has been the goto girl whenever the Tigers need to score. Her 155 career goals put her in third place all-time in Princeton women's lacrosse history.
One of those goals came last year in the NCAA championship game against Virginia. With one minute, 29 seconds remaining in overtime, Sherry lost her defender and fired the ball past the goalie to earn Princeton its second straight national title.
This season, the Tigers are rolling at 16-0, and Sherry is again at the top of the stats for the team favored to win the national championship in women's lacrosse. Contributing all over the field, she is in second place in goals, draw controls, caused turnovers and groundballs.
Sherry is also a candidate for the Tewaaraton Award, the trophy given to the best player in women's college lacrosse. To top all of that off, Sherry entertains the fans both during and before the games, singing the national anthem before each women's soccer and lacrosse home game.
For her accomplishments in two sports, the Daily Princetonian is happy to give the award for Female Athlete of the Year to Theresa Sherry.
