After leading the women's swimming team to a fifth straight Ivy League title, senior Sarah Fraumann and junior Stephanie Hsiao had their sights set even higher as they competed in the NCAA Championships this weekend at Texas A&M in College Station, Tex.
The championship meet kicked off Thursday. Fraumann competed in the 400-meter freestyle race, finishing with a time of 4 minutes, 15.24 seconds and earning a 53rd-place finish. Hsiao swam in the 200m individual medley, placing 58th with a time of 2:18.00.
On Friday, Hsiao broke out with a stellar performance in the 100m breastroke. She captured 28th place with a time of 1:10.54 for the Tigers' best finish of the meet.
The meet wrapped up on Saturday with Fraumann swimming the final event of her illustrious Princeton career. She clocked in with a time of 2:03.52 in the 200m freestyle to finish 60th and earn her second top-60 finish of the championships. Hsiao rounded out her weekend with a 73rd-place finish in the 100m freestyle with a time of 57.39.
Overall, Auburn won the meet, capturing its third straight swimming and diving national championship.
Auburn finished the meet with 569 points, ahead of second place Georgia, who had 439 points. Arizona came in third with 369 points. Florida and Stanford rounded out the top five, with 253 and 237 points, respectively. Princeton failed to earn any overall points.
Auburn was led by Kirsty Coventry, who beat out NCAA three-time swimmer of the year Natalie Coughlin of California in the 200m backstroke. Previously, Coughlin had never lost a race in collegiate competition. Coventry's time of 2:03.86 also set a new meet record.
Another notable performance was that of Georgia's 200m freestyle relay team. The Bulldogs won the event and set a world record with a time of 1:37.27.
Stanford's Tara Kirk set a world record in the 100m breaststroke. Her time of 1:04.79 made her the first woman ever to swim the event under 1:05.00.
The events at the championships took place in a 25-m pool. Events in Olympic competition occur in 50m pools.
Successful season
Fraumann's and Hsiao's performances capped a successful season for the Tigers. In addition to earning their fifth straight Ivy League title, Princeton ended the season ranked No. 23 in the country. The league title was the Tigers' 15th overall.
Princeton also won all but one of its head-to-head matches this year, only falling to Pittsburgh, 165-135. That loss also ended the women's streak of 47 consecutive dual meet victories.

Fraumann and Hsiao both dominated at the Ivy League Championships, each winning multiple events.
Fraumann won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:50.49 and the 1650yd freestyle with a time of 16:36.04.
Hsiao won the 200yd IM in 2:02.59, the 100yd backstroke with a time of 1:02.76 and the 200yd backstroke in 2:17.92.
