After a successful opening to the season down in Georgia, the softball team will take its talent cross-country to California over next week's spring break.
The team will compete at the UC-Riverside Tournament this Saturday and Sunday and will follow with four games in Fullerton, Calif. during the week.
The Tigers (2-3 overall) opened their season two weeks ago with five games down south. Sophomore hurler Erin Synder (2-1) was the hero, as she allowed only three runs in pitching three complete games. This included a 1-0 shutout of Fresno State. The Bulldogs are currently ranked No. 15 in the USA Today Top 25 Poll.
Princeton will open the UC-Riverside Tournament on Saturday with a morning doubleheader. They open with Canisius and then take on the University of San Diego. The next day the Tigers will take on the host Highlanders.
Depending on the outcome of their first three games the Tigers will play in either the consolation game or championship game later on Sunday.
During the middle of the week the Tigers will make the short trip to Fullerton to compete in four contests.
The last of these will be the most challenging as Princeton will do battle with No. 8 Washington. The Huskies are highly ranked despite having five losses on the season.
The Tigers will also take on the host Titans, Pacific, and Texas A&M.
Once again Princeton will rely on Snyder to keep it close in games and hope that its offense is able to generate some runs. In their five games thus far the Tigers have scored only five runs.
However, as long as Synder with her 2.77 earned run average (in 26.0 innings) continues to shine, the Tigers will hang tough with any team.
