Wysocki unexpectedly leaves men's basketball

Senior forward Konrad Wysocki has unexpectedly left the men's basketball team. The decision was announced in a statement released by head coach John Thompson '88 on Monday afternoon.

Thompson told the''Prince,' "He's a second-semester senior who decided to step away and focus on other things."

Wysocki started the Tigers' first eight games of the season, averaging 6.0 points a game, but was sidelined for over a month after contracting a viral infection in late December. He returned to the court last week, coming off the bench to play 12 minutes against Southern Vermont and six minutes against Brown.

Against Yale on Saturday night, however, Wysocki never entered the game. In the post-game press conference, Thompson confirmed that the lack of playing time was a "coach's decision" and was unrelated to any health problems.

During Wysocki's absence, Andre Logan reclaimed his starting spot and emerged as a goto player in Princeton's offense.

Wysocki was named Ivy League freshman of the year in 2001 but never fully lived up to the promise of his rookie season performance. After averaging seven points a game as the Tigers' sixth man in 2002, Wysocki saw his points and minutes per game drop last year.

Wysocki could not be reached for comment.
