Following a week of uncertainty, Parry '06 gets Ivy Club bid

Brandon Parry '06 woke up at 9 a.m. on Friday after a restless night's sleep. He waited anxiously, staring at the door and jumping each time someone knocked. Fortunately for Parry, none of the visitors were the ones he dreaded — members of Ivy Club informing him that he had been denied membership. By 11 a.m., he decided he was in the clear. He had made it into the club.

Last week, Parry sat down with the 'Prince' to discuss his opinions about the Bicker process.

Though he said the atmosphere surrounding the Bicker process was not too "intimidating," the wait for the club's decision was stressful to say the least.

"It was a pretty anxious time for a number of reasons," Parry said. "Some of my friends who I thought would get in didn't because the bicker numbers were so high."

Despite the cold rain, when members came to pick him up around 1 p.m., he gladly joined them as they meandered around campus celebrating and picking up other new members.

"It's one of those things where you're just so excited and all the members were really excited. The weather could have been better, but it didn't matter," he said.

The parade ended at Ivy Club, where music was playing and new and old members celebrated together.

The festivities continued Saturday with initiations.

"We got there around 9 [p.m. and] socialized for a while. I got to meet some new people in my class. A lot of [initiations] focused on fostering a new sense of brotherhood among the new bicker class," Parry said.

After 10 interviews, countless hours of waiting and a weekend of celebration, Parry said he is now looking forward to his future in the club.

"Already it's starting to feel like I belong to something," Parry said. "The members who are in the club now are passionate about it, so I'm just excited to be part of an institution that a lot of people enjoy and really care about."
