Forget about George W. Bush, Howard Dean, John Kerry and the other United States presidential hopefuls, because for the next week, only one political race will dominate campus: the USG elections.
As the beginning of voting draws near, candidates for the USG executive and senatorial slots are politicking across campus.
Message boards are filled with fluorescent flyers. The presidential debate is on heavy rotation on the Tigervision channel. Candidates are roaming dining halls to rub elbows with underclassmen.
Their faces, slogans and platforms may be saturating campus, but how many people know the other side of these presidential candidates — the nonpolitical dimension? It may be helpful for students to know the ins-and-outs of their policies on study hours or late meals. However, quiz voters on the candidates' nicknames or pet peeves, and many will probably return with blank stares.
The 'Prince' surveyed students across campus and asked what they wanted to know about the hopefuls. The result: a collection of not-so-personal to highly personal questions.
After very little arm-twisting, the six presidential candidates: Johnny Chavkin '05, Gabe Doyle '05, Leslie-Bernard Joseph '06, Matt Margolin '05, Jacqui Perlman '05 and Amy Saltzman '05 agreed to be grilled by the 'Prince' about everything from their romantic status (many of them are single), undergarment preferences (guess who occasionally goes commando), to who they think is the best-looking candidate. A candidate infamous for sporting shorts around campus garnered the most votes.
To the surprise of the 'Prince' and maybe to themselves, the presidential hopefuls answered practically all the questions with little reservation.
Warning to the reader: you may never be able to look at your peers or rather president-to-be the same way ever again.
And now, the interviews, starting with Johnny Chavkin '05:
