Senior co-captain and midfielder Claire Miller and freshman goalkeeper Allison Nemeth received two of the top Ivy League honors for the 2003 season.
After leading the team to its tenth consecutive Ivy League title this year, Miller was named the 2003 Ivy League Player of the Year. Miller was a huge contributor to team stats, starting in all 74 games at Princeton. She finished her collegiate career with a commanding total of 72 points (23 goals, 26 assists), leaving an indelible mark in Princeton field hockey history.
With the departure of two senior goalies last year, freshman goalkeeper Allison Nemeth had some big shoes to fill. After being named Rookie of the Week four times during the season, Nemeth was selected as the 2003 Rookie of the Year. Ranked 17th nationally in goals against (average of 1.47), this youngster on the Tiger roster also received an honorable mention All-Ivy selection.
Both junior defender Lizzie Black and sophomore attack Maren Ford were chosen for second-team All-Ivy selection. Junior midfielder Shahrzad Joharifard joined Nemeth on the honorable mention squad.
Junior forward Esmeralda Negron of the women's soccer team was recently named 2003 Ivy League Player of the Year. The award is determined by votes from the league's eight head coaches. Negron is the fourth women's soccer player in the program's history to be honored. Past recipients are Lynette Prescott '85, who won in 1982; Dodie Colavecchio '88, who won in 1985; and Heather Deerin '03, who won in 2001.
Negron was also awarded first-team All-Ivy selection by an impressive unanimous vote. With thirteen goals on the season, Negron tied the school's record set by Susan Mooney '85 in 1981 and, with 30 points, was one off a school record set in 1982 by Linda DeBoer '86. With 27 goals, Negron sits in second place for all-time goals.
Sophomore midfielder Emily Behncke and junior defender Rochelle Willis joined Negron as All-Ivy first-team selections.
