Four individuals were arrested this weekend for being under the influence of marijuana, Crime Prevention Specialist Barry Weiser said.
University Public Safety was notified of an unconscious male at the bottom of stairs in a Spelman dorm on Friday at about 10 p.m., Weiser said. A rescue squad was dispatched to the scene to help the victim.
"He was intoxicated and we could smell the marijuana when we were there," Weiser said. "[The rescue squad] asked him when he became conscious where he was, and he said a room number."
The rescue squad transported the patient to the University Medical Center at Princeton, formerly know as PMC, where he received treatment for wounds to his head and mouth, Weiser said.
Public Safety then entered the room and observed four individuals with drug paraphernalia, including a water pipe and a partially burned marijuana joint visible in an ash tray, Weiser said.
When no one in the room admitted to owning drugs or having used drugs, Wesier said, all four students were arrested for being under the influence of marijuana and two were also charged for possession of drug paraphernalia.
The student who had been transported to UMCP was also charged with being under the influence, Weiser added.
"The four individuals were hauled into Borough police headquarters, fingerprinted and charged there," Weiser said.
In an unrelated incident, a building services employee found a note with a racial slur in Marquand Library early Friday morning, a University statement said.
"The employee saw it on the windowsill and picked it up," Weiser said.
"He noticed a racial slur, but he does not think it was directed at him. It was not directed at anyone specific by any name or work location."
Several people have already been questioned about the matter and the case is still open, Weiser added. The investigation will be ongoing.
Early Monday morning at about 5 a.m., a University employee noticed that the cannon buried behind Nassau Hall in Cannon Green had been painted red, Weiser said.
Several pairs of latex gloves were found at the scene, he added, but nobody had witnessed anybody in the area.
"It was still wet when found," Weiser said. "It must have happened early in the morning hours and was found soon afterward."
According to Princeton lore, the cannon had been part of a series of rivalrous pranks between Rutgers University and Princeton in the 19th century.
At the time, the schools were bitter rivals and students would make midnight trips to the opposition's campus to steal the cannon.
In recent years, Princeton has retained ownernship of the cannon, although it is occasionally painted various colors, including Rutgers' scarlet red.
