Athlete of the Break - Greg Parker '03

Senior wrestler Greg Parker had already etched his name into Princeton's all-time list of greatest wrestlers after his junior year, but on Saturday against Cornell, Parker not only defeated the No. 2 wrestler in the country, he also won his 100th match as a Princeton wrestler.

Parker has wrestled well all season, but in a few of his early matches it was unclear whether Parker could repeat his success from his junior year. But Saturday's victory against No. 2 Clint Watternberg of Cornell demonstrated that Parker is fully capable of competing for a national championship once again.

Saturday's match against Wattenberg was not an easy win for Parker.

Wattenberg took an early 4-1 lead in the first period, but Parker stormed back, leaving the match tied at the end of three periods. The match eventually moved into a sudden death second overtime. Parker scored the match winner on an escape and won the match, both securing the win for his team and his top ranking in the Ivy League and EIWA.

What makes Parker's personal achievements so impressive is that Princeton wrestling has not had any major team achievements in over 10 years. Last season the team faced the best competition in dual meets all season, and Parker was the only wrestler capable of beating the nation's best. With Parker's win over Wattenberg, he has once again proved his ability to beat the best.
