Women's track takes time off from writing papers to defeat Rutgers

During reading period, most students are locked away in some corner of Firestone or Frist, banging away at their computers or cramming for exams.

But the women's track team found time Saturday to face Route 1 rival Rutgers in an indoor track meet at Jadwin Gym.

The Tigers won eight of 17 events against the Scarlet Knights, but got enough points to win the dual meet, 87-55.

Junior Emily Kroshus led a sweep for the Tigers in the one mile run, clocking in at four minutes, 57.71 seconds, more than ten seconds ahead of fellow junior Pilar Marin. Junior Laura Petrillo rounded out the event about a second behind Marin.

In the 800-meter run, senior Christine Iseman took home first place with a time of 2:20.58, followed by frehsman Jordan Wagenseller, who timed 2:21.90 to finish as runner-up.

The Tigers continued their dominance of the middle-distance events in the 1000 m, where sophomore Randy Buzzell triumphed at 2:57.55 and fellow sophomore Carrie Strickland finished behind her at 2:58.32.

Princeton did nearly as well in long distance, winning both the 3000 and 5000 meters. A pair of freshmen — Cack Ferrell and Meredith Lambert — finished 1-2 in the 3000, with times of 9:55.01 and 10:05.17, respectively.
