The men's tennis team competed over the weekend in the men's tennis Eastern Colleges Athletic Conference championships. After gaining some momentum with a 4-0 victory over Rutgers, the Tigers met Ivy League rival Cornell in the quarterfinals.
The Tigers took the match 5-2, winning all three of the doubles matches as well as three of the singles matches. The only points they lost were in the No. 4 and 5 spots in singles.
At the No. 1 spot, senior Trevor Smith defeated his opponent 7-6 (10-8), 7-4, then joined doubles partner junior Hendrik Chasse to defeat the No. 1 doubles team in a pro set, 8-1.
In the semifinal match, Princeton encountered Virginia Tech. The Hokies defeated the Tigers 6-1. At the No.1 spot, Smith met Saber Kadiri, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason 50th ranked player nationally. Although a tough match, Kadiri defeated Smith 6-4, 6-2.
Virginia Tech went on to the finals to face the second-seeded Harvard who pulled a surprising upset of the top-seeded Hokies, 4-2.
Up next for Princeton is the ITA Regional championships to be held at the end of October.
