M. tennis' run ends with Virginia Tech

The men's tennis team competed over the weekend in the men's tennis Eastern Colleges Athletic Conference championships. After gaining some momentum with a 4-0 victory over Rutgers, the Tigers met Ivy League rival Cornell in the quarterfinals.

At the No. 1 spot, senior Trevor Smith defeated his opponent 7-6 (10-8), 7-4, then joined doubles partner junior Hendrik Chasse to defeat the No. 1 doubles team in a pro set, 8-1.

In the semifinal match, Princeton encountered Virginia Tech. The Hokies defeated the Tigers 6-1. At the No.1 spot, Smith met Saber Kadiri, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason 50th ranked player nationally. Although a tough match, Kadiri defeated Smith 6-4, 6-2.

Virginia Tech went on to the finals to face the second-seeded Harvard who pulled a surprising upset of the top-seeded Hokies, 4-2.

Up next for Princeton is the ITA Regional championships to be held at the end of October.
