The Princeton Borough Council voted to authorize the publication of a bond ordinance providing for the acquisition of Coventry Farms and the R. W. Johnson Estate for an estimated cost of $592,000 at a special meeting last night.
The land would be preserved as open space and for recreational uses, preventing it from development. Rather than large houses on two-acre lots, the land could be used for parks complete with soccer and baseball fields, Mayor Marvin Reed said.
The council also approved the publication of an ordinance authorizing the acquisition of permanent and temporary easements to build a storm sewer system under Jefferson Road and Humbert Street, just north of Nassau Street. The sewer will improve drainage in the area.
The council continued discussion of easing parking congestion in the Borough. One suggestion was the use of the top floor of the Hulfish Street parking garage on weekends during the holiday season. This option will continue to be discussed.
