Troubadour Magazine, a literary travel journal founded last year by Jon Harris '02 and Dan Hafetz '02 was recently named a winner of the 2001 Mark of Excellence competition by The Society of Professional Journalists. They received a first place award for "Best All-Around Online Student Magazine" and a third place award for "Best Student Magazine."
"The Mark of Excellence competition represents some of the finest examples of collegiate print, broadcast and photojournalism in the country," said SPJ Vice President for Campus Chapter Affairs Jim Highland in a press release. "National achievements such as these help young journalists increase their career possibilities following graduation."
Harris and Hafetz launched the magazine last year after returning from trips abroad and realizing there was no forum for students and faculty to share their travel stories. The first two issues included poems, photographic essays and journal entries.
"Our interest is not with tourism," reads the magazine's mission statement, "but rather with how people understand themselves through where they've been."
Harris and Hafetz have remained in Princeton past graduation to work on further developing their project and broadening their readership.
