Eight baseball players named to All-Ivy League teams

Sophomore pitcher Thomas Pauly and senior shortstop Pat Boran were named to the All-Ivy League first team for their performances with the Princeton baseball team this spring.

Pauly was the best relief pitcher in the conference this season, giving up just 30 hits in 45.2 innings pitched and a miniscule 1.30 ERA. He earned nine saves on the year, tying the all-time Princeton record. The sophomore struck out 45 and walked 15.

Boran, an unanimous first-team selection as All-Ivy, batted .310 with a team-leading 33 RBI. The senior holds many of Princeton's offensive records after four exceptional years in the lineup.

Freshman pitcher Ross Ohlendorf was named IvyLeagueSports.com Rookie of the Year. Ohlendorf also received a berth on the All-Ivy second team. The freshman posted a 3.02 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 52.2 innings.

Joining Ohlendorf on the All-Ivy second team was freshman first baseman Ryan Eldridge. He batted .298 for the Tigers.

Four other Princeton baseball players were honored by the Ivy League. Sophomore catcher Tim Lahey, freshman outfielder Adam Balkan, junior designated hitter Jon Miller and sophomore utility man Steve Young were all named honorable mention All-Ivy.

Balkan led the team in batting (.313), hits (55) and started every game all season, the only Tiger to do so. Lahey was a fixture behind the plate and batted .257 with three home runs. Miller had 11 doubles and Young ripped three triples.

The women's lacrosse team was rewarded for its excellent play this season with a slew of post-season awards. Three seniors — attacks Lauren Simone and Charlotte Kenworthy and midfielder Brooke Owens — joined junior defender Rachael Owens and sophomore midfielder Theresa Sherry as first-team All-Ivy and All-Mid Atlantic selections.

Simone, co-captain along with Kenworthy, leads Princeton in all major offensive categories with 46 goals, 21 assists and 67 points. Kenworthy is third on the team with 41 points.

Sherry has 37 goals for the Tigers and 47 points. The women's lacrosse team plays North Carolina in the national semifinal this weekend in Baltimore. Becker is also an All-America defender in field hockey.

Club sports receive awards

At the year-end club sports banquet at Dillon Gym this week, the ski and snowboard team was named Club Sport of the Year.

The cycling team, led by Male Athlete of the Year junior Tyler Wren, was named Co-ed Sport of the Year. Ice hockey was named Men's Sport of the Year, while soccer took the award for the women.
