Men's basketball loses Logan for year to torn ACL

The men's basketball team took a big loss this week, even though Princeton did not play any games. Sophomore forward Andre Logan received the results of his MRI on Tuesday and found that, as he had suspected, he had torn his anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, a season-ending injury.

Logan landed awkwardly on his knee Friday in the first half of the game against Harvard, which the Tigers won, 50-48, and then sat out the remainder of the Harvard game and the Dartmouth contest the following night.

"It's a big loss," said head coach John Thompson '88. "He's definitely one of our best players, and he has a big impact on our team.

"He was playing very well at the time. Plus, he's an outstanding young man. We all feel badly for him."

Logan, who has started in 28 of the Tigers last 29 games and has started in all the league games in his Princeton career, was second on the team in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 9.3 points and 3.9 rebounds per game.

The forward was shooting 57 percent from the field and 42 percent on three-pointers. Logan hit 73 percent of his free-throw attempts. The sophomore is also eighth in the Ivy League in blocked shots.

Logan — whose field goal percentage ranked 22nd in the league — scored seven points in the first 15 minutes of the Harvard game before he was injured.

Stepping in for Logan will be junior forward Ray Robins. Robins started in the Dartmouth game Saturday and led the team with 14 points to a 57-46 win.

He is averaging 10.1 points per Ivy League game in which he starts.

The Tigers' frontcourt, including sophomore Konrad Wysocki, freshman Dominick Martin and junior Chris Krug, will be asked to make up for Logan's absence on the boards.

League leaders

After its road trip, Princeton (6-7 overall, 2-0 Ivy League) currently sits at the top of the conference with Yale (10-6) and Brown (11-4). All three teams are undefeated in Ivy play.
