The women's basketball team leaped to victory again last night, clinching an 89-80 victory over St. Francis. The win is the Tigers' second of the season, which is already a major step up from their abominable 2-25 record last year.
The first few minutes of the game were rather bleak for the Tigers, as the Terriers scored 16 straight points to gain a 20-13 edge with 13 minutes remaining.
But junior forward Maureen Lane's eight-point spree in the last few minutes propelled the Tigers to a 49-42 lead. By the end of the first half, the Tigers had connected on an impressive 62 percent of their field goal attempts, compared to 45 percent for the Terriers.
The rest of the game was in Princeton's hands.
Lane finished the game with a team-high of 20 points, with junior guard Allison Cahill adding 17 to the scoreboard. And coming off of a record-breaking 24 points in last week's opener against Lehigh, freshman guard Karen Bolster sank four baskets and made three of five free throws for a total of 13 points.
Defensively, sophomore guard Mary Cate Opila had a knock-out performance with five steals. She was also a threat from the line, sinking five of six free throw shots.
Sophomore center Jessica Aitken's 10 points in 13 minutes of play and Cahill's seven assists were also critical to the Tiger triumph.
