In her four years on the women's basketball team, senior forward Lauren Rigney has been through a lot. Three coaches, a number of extremely different offensive systems, and a two-win season last year.
It would be understandable if Rigney had given up on the program after three uneven years.
This year, as a senior, everything seems to be turning around. Rigney led the Tigers to a 1-1 finish at the Husky Classic last weekend in Seattle, Wash., scoring a career-high 20 points in the first game before tallying 16 in the second, including a free throw in the final seconds that put Princeton two points ahead of Northeastern and closed out the Tigers' 82-80 win.
The free throw was especially important for Rigney, who has struggled from the charity stripe throughout her Princeton career.
For her efforts, averaging 18 points and seven rebounds a game during the tourney, Rigney was named to the all-tournament team. She has been a leader on and off the court for a team that looked like it lacked drive and direction many times last season. This season, the team has that direction.
"Even in the locker room before the game I felt like there was more energy this season," Rigney said before the season-opening win against Lehigh.
Now Rigney hopes to be part of another chapter of Tiger history - the greatest single-season team turnaround.
