Deerin, Nugent take Ivy Player of Year honors

Princeton's dominance in Ivy League soccer was readily apparent this season, as both the men and the women won at least a share of the Ivy League title.

The postseason awards drove the point home, as both the men and the women received more postseason awards than any of their counterparts. Senior Mike Nugent and junior Heather Deerin led the way, both garnering Ivy League Player of the Year honors.

Deerin, who was also named first team All-Ivy for the third time, is Princeton's first Player of the Year selection since goalkeeper Dodie Colavecchio shared the award in 1985. From her defender spot, she scored a goal, assisted on two others, and anchored a defense that allowed only four goals in league play and just nine goals overall.

Senior goalie Catherine Glenn and junior Krista Ariss joined Deerin on the first team.

Nugent was the most dominant offensive player in the Ivy league this season, scoring 30 points on the season. Senior Matt Behncke, a first-team All-Ivy selection with Nugent, was second in the league with 17. Nugent is the first Princeton player to be selected Player of the Year since current Tiger head coach Jim Barlow '91 won the award in 1990.

Junior goalkeeper Jason White and sophomore defender Jeff Hare were also selected to the first team.
