Men's, women's track complete spring with solid IC4A results

Capping off a somewhat disappointing season for both teams, men's track finished fourth at the IC4A Championships and women 's track finished 23rd at the ECAC Championships, both of which were held May 17-20 at Weaver Stadium.

The depleted squad stumbled into IC4As, having lost to Penn at the Heptagonal Championships May 13-15. On the first day of qualifying, the 4x800 meter relay team failed to make the finals when David Dean '03 fell down during his leg. Dean and company were the favorites to win the event, and without their points, the Tigers few remaining hopes were squashed.

Ryan Smith '02 turned in the most impressive performance of the weekend for Princeton. He led from start to finish against strong competition in the 800 meters to win in one minute, 49.19 seconds.

Though Smith was the Tigers' only winner, the field team scored the majority of Princeton points as it had throughout the year. Tora Harris '02, who set the University record in the high jump at Heptagonals with a leap of 7 feet, 5.25 inches, cleared 7-3 to finish second at IC4As. Denbo, the reigning champion in the shot put, managed a second place finish at this year's competition by throwing 58-7.25. Liam Morton '02 finished third in the javelin with a toss of 219-3 into a light headwind. Javius Wynn '03 took third in the decathlon by racking up a personal-best 6761 points.

The Tigers finished with 43 points, 24 behind first-place Georgetown.

The majority of the women's team's points were scored by Susan Coltman '04, who set a University record in the heptathlon by piling up 5165 points. Her first place finish was good for 10 of the Tigers' 12.25 points. Lauren Simmons '02 took eighth in the 800 and the 4x800 team finished eighth as well to earn a point each, while Becca Desman '01 tied for eigth in the high jump to account for the final .25 points.
