The women's golf team came into the William & Mary Invitational this weekend looking for another good finish leading up to the end-of-season tournaments and especially the Ivy Championships.
After winning the Jacksonville Invitational over Spring Break after the second round was rained out, the Tigers once again faced wet conditions, this weekend at the Ford's Colony Country Club in Williamsburg, Va.
The Tigers rallied for a team score of 646 which was good for a seventh-place finish in the tough conditions.
Once again leading Princeton was freshman Esty Dwek who fired a closing-round 73 to jump from 12th place into a tie for second in the tournament. Dwek finished with a two-round total of 150 and was the only Tiger finishing in the top 32 of the final standings.
The freshman finished the tournament three strokes behind Anne Schnell of William & Mary who used her home-course knowledge to take home the title.
Behind Dwek was senior Natalie Christensen who put together a two-day score of 164 to finish in a tie for 33rd place and senior Julia Allison who came back from a first round of 87 to fire an 82 on the second day and finish in a tie for 49th. Senior Adrienne Gill was the fourth Tiger to finish, rallying for a total of 171.
There were a number of positive signs for the Tigers in the early-season event as Princeton finished ahead of Ivy-rival Yale — the only other league team in the tournament — which finished with a total of 650.
The Tigers were also able to defeat intrastate-rival Rutgers, a team that finished in eighth with a score of 648.
The Tigers play in the James Madison Invitational next weekend in Harrisonburg, Va. The tournament will be Princeton's final warmup for the Ivy Championships, which will be held April 24-5 in Jamesburg.
