Men's lacrosse players honored by Ivy League
Senior defenseman Ryan Mollett was named Ivy League Player of the Week, and freshman attackman Ryan Boyle took home Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors for their work in Princeton's 7-4 win over Cornell last Saturday. The win guaranteed the Tigers the Ivy League's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament and at least a share of the Ivy title.
Mollett was instrumental in the Tigers' defensive effort that held the Big Red scoreless over the last 26 minutes, 58 seconds. Mollett was charged with guarding Cornell's David Key, the Ivy League's leading scorer, and held him to one goal and no assists. Key had been averaging nearly four points a game before running into Mollett.
Boyle orchestrated Princeton's championship-winning offensive effort. With the Tigers trailing by three early in the second half, Boyle assisted sophomore attackman Sean Hartofilis on two scores in a 55-second span. Then, with only ten seconds remaining in the contest, Boyle assisted junior attackman B.J. Prager for Prager's only goal of the game. Had Prager not netted that last-minute shot, his streak of scoring goals in 29 straight games would have come to a close.
