Property stolen at eating clubs

Five students reported Sunday that their property was stolen while at Quadrangle Club and Tower Club last weekend, according to Borough Police Capt. Charles Davall.

The items stolen include jackets, gloves, glasses, wallets, keys and credit cards — valued at more than $1,000 — according to a Borough Police report.

The thefts occurred between 1:30 a.m. and 4:10 a.m. Sunday in the unattended coat rooms of the two clubs.

Colin Brown '03 — one of the victims — said his track jacket was "in the second-to-last rack, as far back as you can be."

"The last time I saw it was one o'clock," said Brown. "I didn't leave until four, and that's when I noticed it was gone."

Brown then proceeded, unsuccessfully, to search all of the other eating clubs on Prospect Ave.

"This was quite a few [thefts] for a weekend party," Davall said. "It was a busy weekend. This was more activity than we're used to."

Borough Police have no leads, said Davall, adding the stolen credit cards would assist them in tracking down the criminals.

Coat thefts at the eating clubs are a perennial problem, and, Davall has previously recommended that students keep their possessions with them.

"We are encouraging members to be very careful with their things and not bring anything valuable with them out to the 'Street,' " said Tower President Cynthia Drakeman '02 in an e-mail. "With a few precautions and increased awareness we hope that those occurrences will decrease throughout the 'Street.' "

"I'm probably going to get a new track jacket," said Brown, "but I'm not going to bring it to the 'Street' anymore."
