University economics professor Burton Malkiel GS '64 was named yesterday to the Board of Directors of NeuVis, Inc., an e-business development consulting firm.
A former member of the President's Council of Economic Advisors who has served as director of several financial institutions, Malkiel said he was excited to be joining the NeuVis board. "NeuVis is a company that I believe will play a very important part in the continued development of Internet commerce," he said.
"We're very excited to have him on our board of directors," said NeuVis product marketing director Patrick Luther. "We think he can definitely bring a lot of value based on his experience on Wall Street."
Malkiel said his new role would not affect his University position. "One of the reasons that I do have a half-time appointment at the University is that I will have an opportunity to do things like this," he said.
Malkiel said his role at the company will probably involve strategic and financial planning. He also said he expects to receive stock options rather than direct monetary compensation for his new position. "You take a risk that you may put some time in and get zero compensation," he said. "Maybe you will end up with some stock that will be worth something."
