On March 16, the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) hosted a virtual town hall with Dean of the College Jill Dolan, Vice President for Campus Life W. Rochelle Calhoun, and other campus administrators to discuss the new COVID-19 protocols, such as the elimination of the universal indoor mask mandate and the shift from weekly testing to monthly testing for the second half of the Spring 2022 semester.

During the fall 2021 semester, many undergraduate students found themselves sick with a variety of seasonal illnesses, such as the common cold and strep throat. Collectively dubbed the “Princeton Plague” by students, these non-COVID-19 illnesses prevented many of those afflicted from attending courses in person and completing academic work in a timely and proficient manner, among other challenges.

According to data from the University’s COVID-19 Dashboard, the campus-wide COVID-19 positivity rate rose to 2.59 percent during the week ending on Feb. 25, a slight increase from the 2.32 percent reported the week prior.

On Tuesday, March 1, an apparent change to the frequency of mandated COVID-19 testing was published on the University COVID-19 resources webpage, leading many students to believe that protocols had shifted from weekly to monthly testing. But on Tuesday evening, a University spokesperson told The Daily Princetonian that the posting was inadvertent and the policy post was unpublished from the University page at around the same time.

On Feb. 18, Dean of the College Jill Dolan and Vice President for Campus Life W. Rochelle Calhoun sent a memo to the undergraduate student body addressing the recent spike in undergraduate COVID-19 cases. The memo, which urged students to “take good care to limit your exposure to avoid testing positive for COVID[-19]” in advance of midterms week, has sparked controversy on campus, as some students have argued the email was insensitive and placed an unfair burden on students who test positive.

On Tuesday, Feb. 22, the Princeton Committee on Palestine (PCP) held a demonstration outside the Center for Jewish Life (CJL) that PCP members told The Daily Princetonian aimed to protest University-affiliated summer programs and internships taking place in the State of Israel. The CJL hosted an event providing information about such programs the same night.

On Wednesday, Feb. 16, Divest Princeton filed a legal complaint to the New Jersey Attorney General against Princeton University. On the same day, organizations at Yale, Stanford, and Vanderbilt Universities, as well as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology filed similar complaints in their respective states.
