Rolling Stone will publish a review of its disputed article on an alleged University of Virginia gang rape in the coming weeks, the magazine announced on Monday.
The article, “A Rape on Campus,” sparked widespread controversy when it was published in November. Shortly thereafter, the Washington Post and CNN brought to light a number of discrepancies in the story and questioned the publication’s choice not to contact the alleged perpetrators.
The main source for the article also allegedly had a previous history of fabrication.
In response to the criticism, Rolling Stone retracted the article in December and commissioned the Columbia University School of Journalism to conduct an independent review of Rolling Stone’s reporting process.
Rolling Stone publisher Jann Wenner said the Columbia investigation would have full access to the article’s authors, editors and fact-checkers.
The review is expected to run in Rolling Stone onApril 8.
