The phrase “bring back manly men” sets our society back years. Men, no matter their assigned sex, should be able to dress how they want. But this is an issue that is bigger than wardrobe. Society perpetuates the idea that men have to be strong or “manly” all the time. The term “manly” already confines men into a box, but this idea actually creates more harm for men themselves.
With the midterms stress dying down and finals just around the corner, I want to remind students to take a step back and live for what we have now. The uncertainty about the spring is daunting, but we need to remember and be grateful for the moments we have now because we don’t know when they will be gone.
Hobson’s donation, and its celebration by the student body, should also push alumni to give back to their alma mater in ways that challenge and change the narrative.
As Princeton students, we must fulfill our University’s unofficial motto, “in the Nation’s Service and the Service of Humanity,” and know that it is not only our civic responsibility but our duty to vote this year. We are fortunate enough to attend school with the future leaders of this country; we must act like it.
It is our duty to make the hard and correct choices, hold our heads high, show leadership, and realize other conferences, institutions, and people look to the Ivy League for guidance.
Making sure that Princeton’s Title IX system keeps survivors’ best interests at heart is necessary.
