Football: Devout junior Wilson emerges as top target

What was going through Roman Wilson’s mind as he made one of the biggest plays in Princeton football history?“I was just running as fast as I could,” he said. “Just trying to keep my eye on the ball.”That simple attitude, exemplified by the 36-yard catch that sealed a stunning comeback victory against Harvard three weeks ago, is typical of the junior wide receiver from Broken Arrow, Okla. The possibility of losing focus, or of doing anything halfheartedly, seems never to have crossed Wilson’s mind.

Men's Basketball: Tigers have tall roster, taller expectations

The men’s basketball team is back, and the Tigers are hungry. After failing to follow up the 2010 season’s amazing run in which the team came within two points of knocking out eventual Final Four team Kentucky, Princeton failed to return to the NCAA tournament after finishing third in the Ivy League last year. However, the Tigers are confident going into this season, having been picked first in the Ivy League preseason poll in which they received all but one of the first place votes.

Women's Basketball: Princeton chases 4th Ivy League title, 1st tournament win

Since head coach Courtney Banghart took the helm of the women’s basketball team in 2007, expectations have only continued to rise. During the 2011-12 season, Princeton continued to live up to some of those expectations, as it earned a ranking as high as No. 24 in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll. This was the first time an Ivy League team had achieved a national ranking, and the Tigers went on to claim a No. 9 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Undefeated in the Ivy League last season, Princeton looks to continue its dominance and claim a fourth straight league title.

Among those seniors standing out in Princeton’s home finale was Max Gallin, who reassumed the role of starting goalkeeper — which he held for nearly all of the 2011-12 season — and confirmed his ability to lead the team to an overwhelming victory.

Women's Soccer: Tigers secure 7-0 Ivy season, NCAA berth

After defeating Cornell 5-1 on Oct. 27, the women’s soccer team found itself on the brink of glory. The Tigers needed just one more win to clinch the outright Ivy League title and to become one of the few teams to go 7-0 in conference play. The only team standing in their way was Penn, the same team that ended Princeton’s title hopes two years ago at Roberts Stadium.Playing on the same field, the Tigers were determined to see a different outcome and they got it. Behind sophomore midfielder Lauren Lazo’s three-goal effort and senior midfielder Caitlin Blosser’s put-away score, Princeton (13-3-1 overall, 7-0 Ivy League) defeated the Quakers (9-6-1, 5-2) 4-2 and earned a bid to the NCAA tournament.

Football: Penn hands Princeton 2nd Ivy loss

The football team's game against Penn could mostly be summarized in one word: mistakes. After going on their first four-game win streak since 2006 earlier this season, the Tigers (4-4 overall, 3-2 Ivy League) have started showing hints of the group that went 1-9 in each of the last two seasons. With a 28-21 loss to the Quakers today, Princeton lost control of its own chances for the Ivy League title.

Cross Country: Bendtsen leads men to 3rd straight title

At last Saturday’s Ivy League cross country championships, the Princeton men had something to prove. The Tigers were two-time defending champions, but this year they were not the favorites. No. 10 Columbia was the team to beat, and many picked the fit and fast Lions to decisively hand the Tigers only their second loss in seven years. But when the gun went off for the 8K championship race at West Windsor Fields, it was all business for the Tigers, and they did not lose on their home course. Dominating the race from the start, the men had their best day of the season, as they easily ran away with the conference crown.
