Shanta Devarajan ’75, the chief economist of the World Bank’s Africa Region, spoke on the importance of service as the keynote speaker for the annual “Reflections on Service” event on Sept. 13. The program, which was open to the general public, was sponsored by the Pace Center for Civic Engagement, the Pace Council for Civic Values and the Office of the Dean of Undergraduate Students to encourage incoming freshmen “to participate in a dynamic range of civic engagement activities on campus,” according to information posted on the Pace Center’s website.
