It was a heartfelt weekend for the Tigers as women’s squash honored four seniors at Jadwin Gymnasium — Nicole Bunyan, Hallie Dewey, Alex Lunt and Hadley Chu. Princeton took on Columbia on Friday at home and then traveled to Ithaca for a match on Sunday. The women, currently ranked fourth, swept the weekend — routing both the Lions and the Big Red, and improving their record to 10-2. Despite a hard fight, the men were not able to come away with a team win.

Despite the many Dean’s Date assignments and finals the Tigers had to prepare for next week, Princeton had a very successful weekend in athletics. Women’s ice hockey (10-9-1 overall, 8-6 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference) was able to sweep the competition at Baker Rink, routing both Yale (7-6-1, 4-6 ECAC) and Brown (4-13, 1-9 ECAC). Coming off a difficult travel weekend last week, the Tigers were able to rally and come out with two huge wins. Sophomores Molly Contini and Kelsey Koelzer both had outstanding performances, finishing with 5 and 3 points, respectively. This bodes well for their overall standings in the Eastern College Athletic Conference,as well as in the Ivy League.

As most of us recovered from New Year’s festivities, the Tigers (8-8-1, 6-5 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference) were hard at work again taking on Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (4-13-2, 2-6-0 ECAC) in their fist game of 2015. It was a disappointing loss because Princeton took the first game at Hobey in overtime earlier this season. RPI took an early lead – scoring twice – but sophomore Hilary Lloyd had an outstanding two goals before the end of the first period, keeping the score even.

This past weekend, women’s hockey (7-7-1 overall, 5-4 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference) took on Ivy League opponents Harvard (6-2-2, 5-1-1 ECAC) and Dartmouth (4-5-1, 2-4-1 ECAC) away on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Despite its valiant efforts, Princeton fell 3-0 to the star-studded Crimson. However, the Tigers were able to revive their spirits and walk away with a 5-2 win against Dartmouth on Saturday.

While many of their classmates enjoyed Thanksgiving’s turkey and trimmings, the women’s ice hockey team (6-6-1 overall, 4-3 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference) was on campus facing two of the best teams in the country — Quinnipiac University(13-0-2, 6-0-1 ECAC) and the University of Minnesota (14-1-2, 9-1-2 Big Ten). These two teams tested the Tigers’ confidence and their systems to the utmost. While Princeton did not walk away with a win, the Tigers improved from hanging with two of the nation’s best college programs.

Despite the tough run the Tigers had at Baker Rink this weekend, they were still able to come away feeling more prepared to face Quinnipiac on Tuesday. On Friday, St. Lawrence (7-5-2 overall, 4-2-1 ECAC) defeated Princeton (6-3-1, 4-2-0) with a final score of 7-3. On Saturday, the Tigers battled Clarkson (10-4-1, 5-1-1), last year’s national champion, falling short at3-2.

This weekend the Tigers (6-1-1 overall, 4-0-0 Eastern College Athletic Conference) had a doubleheader facing conference rivals Union (1-10-2, 0-4-0) on Friday and RPI (1-9-3, 0-3-1) on Saturday. Princeton won both contests in overtime by scores of 3-2 and 2-1 respectively. Although Princeton had the home-ice advantage both days — the Tigers have never lost to Union at Baker Rink — both Union and RPI proved challenging opponents.

The women’s ice hockey team is off to a great start this year with a record of 6-1-1 a month into its season. With each game, the Tigers have been honing their play and on-ice chemistry. The team, while younger than last year's, displays great depth and passion for the game, which bodes well for the season ahead.

This weekend, the women’s hockey team fought hard to close out the weekend with one win and one draw against RIT. Princeton (4-1-1 overall, 2-0-0 Ivy League) walked away with a 4-3 win in overtime on Friday and a scoreless draw on Saturday. Overall, the Tigers are happy with their performance, but they also know what they need to work on looking ahead.

This Friday and Saturday, women's ice hockey (3-1 overall, 2-0 ECAC)) will face Rochester Institute of Technology (5-3-2, 0-1-1 College Hockey America) in a double header. The Tigers are feeling confident after their wins against Colgate University and then No. 6 Cornell last weekend. Unlike other teams the Tigers face, RIT is a rather unknown opponent. The last time Princeton played RIT was two years ago, when they won their division. From what the Tigers know, RIT is a formidable team, but the depth and talent of Princeton’s roster has a great shot at coming out with a win.
