Delaware travels to Bedford Field for non-conference matchup

In athletics at any level, the team with the most wins on their record is not necessarily the best of the bunch. Rather it is the team with the greatest motivation to win who will show their true spirit on the field. Princeton field hockey (3-7) is set to take on the University of Delaware (7-5) on Friday at 6 p.m. at Bedford Field.

The Tigers are willing to put up a ferocious fight against the Blue Hens, and are prepared to prove to the competition from here on out that they mean business.

“It is an exciting time to show who we are as a team and as a program,” senior midfielder Sydney Kirby said, four year member of the USA Junior National Field Hockey Team before coming to Princeton and 2013 Honorable Mention All-Ivy Pick.

The field hockey team proves that in athletics a team’s record does not define their perseverance and will to win, whether they are undefeated or defeated. While the Tigers find themselves somewhere in the middle of the two, Kirby is proud to admit that she has “more faith in this team than any other team,” she’s played for and apparently the feeling is mutual among the rest of the girls. In this upcoming match it all comes down to a game of confidence.

In the past, underestimating a team’s abilities has led to some hard losses for the Tigers, but moving forward, “we’ve learned our lesson,” Kirby explains. “And there's no doubt in my mind that we are going to show that on Friday against Delaware. We are going to surprise people.”

It’s an uphill battle from here on out but with the talent and will-to-win present on this team, there is a good chance that success can follow from here on out.
