Tigers compete at Elite Meet as final tuneup before Heps

Women finish strong in final home meet of regular season

The women’s track and field team put in a number of strong performances in the Elite Meeton FridayandSaturday, as the team hosted its final home meet of the regular season.Fridaysaw sophomore Julia Ratcliffe win her seventh hammer throw event of the season, as she reached 69.85 meters on her final throw of the afternoon. Senior Henrietta Miers led Princeton in the 800m with a 2:14.59, and freshman Alexandra Markovich clocked a 4:38.41 in the 1500m race. Miers also ran the 800m the next day and won in 2:13.82, out-leaning her classmate Kacie O'Neil. Princeton alumnus Liz Costello ’10 also returned to win the 5k in 16:27.96. Saturdaysaw the second day of competition include a number of strong performances, as sophomore Taylor Morgan won the high jump with an attempt of 1.70 meters (5-7) and the shot put with a throw of 11.65 meters (38-2.75). The Tigers’ 4x100m relay of senior Lily Miller, junior Joanna Anyanwu, junior Emily Easton and senior Charquia Wright won the event with a time of 47.36. Sophomore Meghan McMullin had a runner-up finish in the 400m hurdles at 1:00.71, and senior Ashley Vandolah had a mark of 40.88 meters (134-01) to place second in the javelin.

Slew of personal bests caps strong weekend for men's team

The first day of the Elite Meet saw the men's track and field team with a number of personal records from across the field. Senior Jake Taylor started off the day strongon Fridayat the West Windsor Fields, where his throw of 55.55 meters (182-03) was a personal best and good enough for third place in the event. Senior Scott Rushton threw a personal record in the shot put, as his mark of 17.64 meters topped his previous best of 17.46. Senior Alejandro Arroyo Yamin ran a personal record of 3:49.82 in the 1500, shaving off a noticeable 2.31 seconds from his previous best. A number of Tigers also competed in the second heat of the 1500, which was won by junior Matt McDonald in a personal record of 3:53.58. Junior Bradley Paternostro just missed running a personal record in the 800m, as his sizzling 1:50.40 was just 0.80 seconds shy of his personal best.Perhaps the most notable result of the entire weekend was recorded by Garrett O'Toole, a high school senior and future Tiger, who very nearly won the top 1500m heat in 3:45.55. This time converts to a 4:03.5 mile, which would be the fastest time in the country this season by 4.5 seconds. Strong performances continued intoSaturdayfor the Tigers, as junior Nana Owusu-Nytantekyi won the event with a season-best mark of 15.31 meters (50-2.75). Junior Adam Bragg won the pole vault with a clearance of 5.15 meters (16-10.75). Senior Omar Jarrett provided the Tigers’ final win in field events, as his third attempt in the high jump of 2.04 meters was enough to secure the win. The 4x100m relay of sophomore Jake Scinto, sophomore John Hill, junior Daniel McCord and senior Tom Hopkins won the event with a time of 41.23 seconds. Hill also ran a league-leading 10.67 seconds in the 100 meters, good for fourth place. Freshman Greg Leeper also marked a personal record in the 400m hurdles with a time of 53.84 seconds, good enough for fourth place.

The Tigers will head to Yale next weekend for the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships fromMay 10-11.
