Crew: Women's openweight wins Ivy title

"It was a superb race, from the start to the finish," senior Heidi Robbins told GoPrincetonTigers.com just after her V8 boat won the grand final at the 2013 Ivy League Championships.

The race was, indeed, superb for Robbins and her boat, which led the field throughout the entire contest on its way to a 6:29.96 mark and a comfortable win over second-place Yale, which finished at 6:36.86. The Tigers redeemed themselves by winning their second Ivy title in three years after placing third to Harvard and Cornell at last year's Ivy Sprints.

After the victory, No. 5 Princeton is once again assured a spot at the NCAA Championships, in which it has competed every year since 1997, when the meet was founded.

The open women also won the 3V, defeating Radcliffe by over six seconds, and placed third in the three other races to win the points competition with 81 points to Radcliffe's 74.

Meanwhile, the women's lightweight crew came in second at EARC Sprints, with the V8 losing by a good margin to top-ranked Radcliffe but edging out Georgetown by three seconds to take silver with a time of 7:26.0. They also took bronze in the fours.

The men's heavyweight V8 did not manage to place at Eastern Sprints, finishing fourth. However, the second varsity boat finished just over 0.4 seconds before Harvard to capture second place in its race, and the 4V beat Harvard by more than three seconds to take the gold in its event. The men's lightweight V8 finished fifth in its field with a time of 6:13.45, while its 2V earned the team's only medal of the day, placing third in its race four seconds ahead of Yale with a time of 6:33.89.
