No. 8 Syracuse edges out No. 7 Princeton 13-12

By STEPHEN WOOD Sports Editor

After two home wins at Class of 1952 Stadium, the men’s lacrosse team faced perhaps its toughest opponent so far Saturday night in front of a crowded Princeton Stadium. The No. 7 Tigers (6-3 overall, 2-1 Ivy League) fought hard against No. 8 Syracuse, but after a wild game that was tied at six different points, the Orange (7-2, 2-1 Big East) came out on top, winning 13-12.

Syracuse triumphed despite senior midfielder Jeff Froccaro’s four-goal night and another three goals from sophomore attacker Mike MacDonald. Freshman goalie Matt O’Connor had a good night in the net with nine saves. Princeton outshot Syracuse 42-34 but allowed the Orange to take 18 of 29 face-offs and capitalized on only one of four man-up opportunities. Syracuse scored three unanswered goals to start off the game, but after Princeton drew even shortly afterwards the two were never more than two goals apart.
