Sports Shorts: Swim teams win Ivy openers, squash teams begin play

Swimming & Diving: Men, women open Ivy seasons with wins

The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams won their first Ivy League dual meets this weekend, beating Penn and Cornell in Philadelphia. The women won 13 of 16 events, including three individual victories for freshman Sada Stewart, while the men took 11 of 16 events, including two first-place finishes from freshman En-Wei Hu-Van Wright.

The women’s team is 31-0 all-time against Cornell and has defeated Penn in 25 consecutive dual meets, while the men have won six straight against the Big Red and 24 in a row against the Quakers. Both teams will next compete at the Brown Open on Nov. 30. 

Squash: Teams open 2012-13 with sweeps

The men’s and women’s squash teams swept their season-opening matches at Jadwin Gymnasium this weekend. Both teams beat Franklin & Marshall 9-0 on Saturday and beat Drexel by the same score on Sunday afternoon.

For the women, freshmen Rachel Leizman and Tara Harrington won their first two collegiate matches, while freshmen Vivek Dinodia and Michael LeBlanc won their college debuts for the men’s team. Both squads will continue their seasons at Williams in two weeks.
