For the second straight week, the women’s soccer team throttled a non-conference opponent on the road. Princeton (5-3-1) defeated St. Peter’s 6-1 on Tuesday afternoon, extending its win streak to three games and five of seven.
Senior forward Jen Hoy opened the scoring less than two minutes into the game, netting a cross from junior midfielder Gabby Guzman for a quick lead. Freshman midfielder Jessica Lee scored off of a rebound a half hour later, giving the Tigers some breathing room, and they earned more by scoring on an own goal off of a throw-in for the second time in as many games.
Sophomore forward Liana Cornacchio opened the second half with a goal, which was followed by a second from Hoy. With a league-high 11 goals in nine games so far, Hoy is on pace to challenge the program record of 20 in a season, set by Esmeralda Negron ’05 in 2004. The senior is already only three goals shy of second place in the record books.
St. Peter’s (1-9) got on the board in the 69th minute when midfielder Chloe Zmolek beat senior goalkeeper Kristin Watson, who entered at halftime for senior Claire Pinciaro. Watson made five saves in the rest of the half, however, and Cornacchio capped the scoring soon after with her second goal of the game.
Having finished a five-game road trip, the Tigers return to Roberts Stadium on Saturday for their second Ivy League game. Princeton takes on Dartmouth at 2 p.m.
