Drorbaugh '43 remembered for love of learning, teaching

Former Daily Princetonian trustee Wells Drorbaugh Jr. '43 died Feb. 17 of lung cancer in Hightstown, N.J. He was 81.

Born in New York, he was raised in Bronxville, N.Y. Known for his love of books and publishing, Drorbaugh was also a trustee of the University library and rowing association.

His interests ranged from sailing to folk art, and he made his career in publishing.

During World War II, he served in the Army's 109th Field Artillery Battalion in Germany during the Rhine Campaign.

After working for a New York magazine, Drorbaugh co-founded Pyne Press, which specialized in American folk art, in Princeton, where he and his late wife Eleanor lived for more than 50 years.

For the past three years, Drorbaugh furthered his love of books and learning by helping his daughter teach a learning disabilities class.

He is survived by a son, daughter, two grandchildren and two brothers. — ANDREW BOSSE
