Element of exclusivity remains a part of bicker

Though I can now sleep easy knowing that Ivy is expecting 15 more people to attend its sessions, I must express some distress over The Daily Princetonian's reporting of the sign-in/bicker process. Though the 'Prince' is a usually source of tip-top journalism, I found Monday's article trying. The assertion that high turnouts for bicker stem from a proactive attitude by bicker clubs to be open to all is wrong. No matter how many times you invite people to tea, all the clubs are defined by whether they allow any undergraduate to be a member or not. The element of exclusivity with which one is comfortable is a choice each sophomore makes. Sunday was a day of juicy celebration for the sign-in clubs, and the 'Prince' should have reported that. Also, I think it is important to clarify what a 'safe' week would entail. I suggest not drinking hard alcohol in settings where one's judgements are already compromised. This would allow all the clubs to eliminate trips to Princeton Medical Center as part of our University's unique tradition. Steven Sullivan '03
