Harvard looks to take crown away from Quakers

Last season, Penn, led by three-time Ivy Player of the Year Diana Caramanico, won the Ivy League title with a perfect 14-0 record. After losing Caramanico to graduation, the Quakers will have a difficult time reclaiming the title this year with Harvard and Dartmouth breathing down their necks. The following are the 'Prince' projections for the upcoming year:

1. Harvard

Due to a slew of injuries last season, the Crimson were unable to produce a record better than 9-5, which was still good enough for second-place standing in the Ivies. They look to return to the form of three seasons ago when they last won the Ivy title.

2. Penn

Caramanico finished her career with an all-time Ivy women's record of 2,415 points. The Quakers hope to replace her with Julie Epton, Jennifer Jones, Tara Twomey, and Jewel Clark, who combined for 29.7 points per game last season.

3. Cornell

The Big Red return three starters and their seven leading scorers from last year's 15-12 team. With a team-leading 11.5 points per game last year, senior Do Stevens should lead this year's squad. Cornell tied Dartmouth for third in the Ivy League with an 8-6 record last season.

4. Dartmouth

The Big Green returns no seniors this year. Head coach Chris Wielgus, in his 17th season, will rely instead on four freshmen and junior Katharine Hanks. Hanks led the team in three-point percentage (.429), points per game (15.7), and rebounds per game (8.7).

5. Brown

The Bears return four starters and nine letterwinners from their 10-17 2000-01 squad. This leaves Brown with an experienced lineup. They hope to return to their mid-90s championship form.

6. Yale

The Elis hope to improve on their 9-18 record last season under the leadership of senior Meg Simpson. Yale also returns juniors Helene Schutrumpf and Maria Smear and sophomores Aubrey Smith and Christina Phillips.

7. Princeton

The Tigers look to rebound from their 2-25 season with a new head coach in Richard Barron. Princeton returns only one senior (Lauren Rigney) to the squad, and looks to a talented freshman duo of Karen Bolster and Ashley Rook to propel the Tigers to a winning season.

8. Columbia

Columbia returns six letterwinners, three of which started last year. The Lions will miss Shawnee Pickney, who had 15.7 points per game, 7.6 rebounds per game, 2.3 steals per game, and 22 total blocks. Junior Patricia Kern, who was second on the team with 8.9 points per game and led the team with 3.0 assists per game, will lead the Lions this year.
