In one of the most important tournaments of the fall, the seeded women's tennis team made it past the first round, but fell to fourth-ranked Yale in the second round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference championships, held this weekend at the Lenz Tennis Center.
In the first round, Princeton swept past Georgetown by a score of 7-0. All six Tigers won their singles matches in straight sets, led by junior Kavitha Krishnamurthy who downed her opponent, 6-2, 6-4.
The three doubles teams also won to give Princeton the doubles point.
In the second round, however, the Tigers met up with a deep Yale team. While Krishnamurthy and senior Kristi Watson won their matches in the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, Yale was able to sweep the next four matches to take control and then won the doubles point to come away with a 5-2 victory.
Princeton then went into the back draw and beat Cornell by a score of 6-1. Krishnamurthy blew by Suzanne Wright of Cornell, 6-1, 6-1. Watson followed suit, taking down Laura Leigh Tallent by the same score. In the No. 4 singles position, sophomore Jackie Arcario won a second set tiebreak to top Erika Takeuchi, 6-3, 6-5.
Top-ranked Harvard dominated No. 4 Yale in the semifinals, losing only a doubles match. They then won the title with a 7-0 win over Penn in the finals.
