In the first full week of Ivy League action this season, Princeton took home much of the league hardware as junior attack Ilvy Friebe was named Ivy League field hockey player of the week, senior forward Mike Nugent was the men's soccer player of the week and freshman forward Kristina Fontanez was the Ivy League women's soccer Rookie of the Week. Senior goalie Jon Pharris also picked up the Collegiate Water Polo Association Southern Division Player of the Week honors.
Friebe was honored for the second straight week after she registered five goals and one assist in Princeton's two games this week.
Friebe scored four goals against Columbia and then tallied the game winner against Dartmouth on Saturday.
Nugent won the honor by scoring twice in men's soccer's 3-0 victory over Dartmouth on Saturday. Nugent started the scoring with a go-ahead goal in the first half of play and then added his second goal on a penalty kick late in the second-half to close the game out.
The win was especially important for a men's soccer team that was looking to start its Ivy season on a strong note.
Fontanez continues to be one of the leaders of an amazing freshman class for the women's soccer team and scored three goals in two games in the past week, including the only score in Princeton's 1-0 win over Dartmouth.
The freshman drilled a shot past the Big Green goalie from just outside the penalty box to keep Princeton perfect in the Ivy League going into Friday's matchup against Columbia at Lourie-Love Field at 7:30 p.m.
Pharris led the Tiger defense in a 4-0 weekend for the water polo team and made a number of key saves, including 15 in Princeton's win over Navy and 14 in the Tigers' 9-5 defeat of Bucknell.
